Naturalization requirements – overview

Applicants must have spent no more than 450 days outside the UK in the 5-year qualifying period (or 3 years if married to a British citizen) and no more than 90 days in the final 12 months. Good character requires no serious criminal convictions, immigration breaches, or financial misconduct. Applicants must pass the Life in the UK test and meet English language requirements.
